Graphic Design 2020 2021 Term 2: New Quarter

Hello to everybody!  It's already quarter 2!  We are going to be getting familiar with classroom procedures and expectations for the first few days.  Obviously masks and sanitizing will be emphasized again this term to keep us all healthy, and in school.  We will also discuss the process of getting started with class each day, phone policy, etc.   Once we get all of the administrative tasks out of the way, we will be ready for learning about what graphic design is, career opportunities, and the design process.  We have a lot of fun projects to do this term, and I'm looking forward to another great group of graphic designers!

Graphic Design 2020 2021 Term 1: Typography

First quarter is already half over!  Unreal.  Graphic Design students are progressing through their learning nicely, and we are currently working on typography.  Students will be starting their assessment this week with a series of typography pieces that fit together as a theme.  We will most likely have these uploaded to our portfolios with our reflections by Friday.  Thursday is parent-teacher conferences, and I have also asked your children to relay the message that I will be unable to attend conferences on Thursday due to a family member's funeral.  If you would like to schedule a time to meet, or if you have any questions, be sure to email me and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

It's been a great term so far, and I look forward to seeing all the creative work that our classes turn in.  Have a great week!

Graphic Design 2020 2021 Term 1: Branding

Hi!  The Bulldogs are already getting ready to start week 3 at NPHS.  Graphic Design has spent time learning about careers in digital design, and have began using their digital tools to create an identity design.  Next week we will be incorporating our identity designs into a brand by creating some promotional stationery.

Just a reminder that all of our information for in-class work is updated daily at https://tinyurl.com/graphdes2.

In the event that a student is at home for quarantine purposes, or if we moved to remote learning, I will send an email to each student information on how to access our digital classroom in Google Classroom.  So again, there is no need to go into Google classroom until I email you a link in the event of a quarantine or if we would have to move to remote learning.  The google classroom work would utilize free alternative apps to create our work that are compatible with your Chrome books.

I've been really impressed with our classes so far this term having positive attitudes and doing creative work.  Keep up the good work!

2020 term 3 week 3: Work Time

Advanced Graphic Design students have finished up their project boards.  Each student in class now should have an idea for a project, a schedule for how to get it finished, and a collage of similar work that has been done to help guide them going forward.  Students will work on their projects now for the next 5 or 6 weeks or so, until it is time for them to put together their portfolios, present their work, and have their critiques.

2020 term 3 week 2: Project Boards

Advanced graphic design students had last week to brainstorm ideas for a term-long project of their choice.  They then wrote a project proposal of what they wish to work on this term, and a timeline of the components of their project, and what they will be responsible for each week.  A big part of the grade for this class is demonstrating a term worth of growth in advanced digital design.  Next week students will be putting together a project board.  The project board is a collection of similar work that is assembled into a collage.  The collage helps to provide direction for designers as they work on their projects, and to help get back onto track if they get stuck.  The project board also must include sources where they got the images for their collage.  This is for our standard that teaches students to be aware of fair-use guidelines and copyright policies.

Once students have their project boards complete, they will be able to start their term projects and follow their time lines that they created in week 1.
