Graphic Design 2020 2021 Term 1: Branding

Hi!  The Bulldogs are already getting ready to start week 3 at NPHS.  Graphic Design has spent time learning about careers in digital design, and have began using their digital tools to create an identity design.  Next week we will be incorporating our identity designs into a brand by creating some promotional stationery.

Just a reminder that all of our information for in-class work is updated daily at https://tinyurl.com/graphdes2.

In the event that a student is at home for quarantine purposes, or if we moved to remote learning, I will send an email to each student information on how to access our digital classroom in Google Classroom.  So again, there is no need to go into Google classroom until I email you a link in the event of a quarantine or if we would have to move to remote learning.  The google classroom work would utilize free alternative apps to create our work that are compatible with your Chrome books.

I've been really impressed with our classes so far this term having positive attitudes and doing creative work.  Keep up the good work!

Graphic Design 2020 2021 Term 1: Welcome!

Hello to those of you who I have taught in previous classes, and new students in my room!  Welcome to Graphic Design class!  I understand our lives at home, in our community, and in our school are different right now.  With everything happening right now, and our current state of events, I do want you to know this will be a classroom where we can come in, do creative projects, make us career-ready and marketable, and in doing so hopefully be able to take our minds off other things.  I'm looking forward to seeing everybody and getting our class started, and seeing the great projects you are able to create this quarter!

A few essential links and information:

Classroom Blog: You are reading it right now.  I will update this page as we move through different sections of learning.

Class Bulletin Board: http://tinyurl.com/graphdes2

Be sure you check your school gmail each day!

The Google Classroom link will be shared to you in email.

As we push through this school year, if you are in the classroom, or at home due to illness, or precautionary self isolating, etc., if you check your email, look at the bulletin board, and check this blog, you will see the information you will need for class.  You can also email me on my school email and I will be happy to help with any questions you have.  I want you to know I will do whatever I can to help you have a successful and fun learning experience in our class this term!

2020 term 3 week 6: Projects and Printing

NPHS advanced graphic design students are progressing nicely through their projects.  We have been doing a lot of 3D printing this week.  We have a few model buildings/arenas created, a card holder, some promotional materials, and much more.  Great to see our printers getting this much use!

2020 term 3 week 4: Project work time

Advanced graphic design has been working on their term-long projects.  We have had some Illustrator projects, logo redesigns, 3D printing, photo manipulations, and apparel designs happening, and it's been a lot of fun to watch.  The class is working hard, and making some good progress!

2020 term 3 week 3: Work Time

Advanced Graphic Design students have finished up their project boards.  Each student in class now should have an idea for a project, a schedule for how to get it finished, and a collage of similar work that has been done to help guide them going forward.  Students will work on their projects now for the next 5 or 6 weeks or so, until it is time for them to put together their portfolios, present their work, and have their critiques.

2020 term 3 week 2: Project Boards

Advanced graphic design students had last week to brainstorm ideas for a term-long project of their choice.  They then wrote a project proposal of what they wish to work on this term, and a timeline of the components of their project, and what they will be responsible for each week.  A big part of the grade for this class is demonstrating a term worth of growth in advanced digital design.  Next week students will be putting together a project board.  The project board is a collection of similar work that is assembled into a collage.  The collage helps to provide direction for designers as they work on their projects, and to help get back onto track if they get stuck.  The project board also must include sources where they got the images for their collage.  This is for our standard that teaches students to be aware of fair-use guidelines and copyright policies.

Once students have their project boards complete, they will be able to start their term projects and follow their time lines that they created in week 1.

2020 term 3: week 1: Graphic Design 2

Happy New Year!  We are half-way through the school year already, but we are getting started with a new section of advanced graphic design.  Students will be learning the expectations for the course this week, then will be spending time coming up with an idea for a term-long project that they will be focusing on.  Advanced graphic design is exciting because students get to choose an individualized project where they design their learning based on the state standards for advanced digital design.  I'm looking forward to seeing what great ideas we have this first week!
